Kids who HAD to be spanked more often, were more aggressive to start with, and continued to act out and be more aggressive as they grew older. No doubt they would have been even MORE aggressive and out of control had it not been for their parents attempts to rein in their bad behavior. For example, in my area aggressive children form gangs and kill people. Compared with THAT outcome, spanking doesnt sound so bad, now, does it? The parents probably tried reasoning and everything else before they resorted to spanking. Spanking is difficult and upsetting for the entire family, so it very likely was not the parents first choice. Reasoning does not work particularly well against aggression. That is why police officers carry guns.
